MSI Myanmar embarked its HIV work in Myanmar with Fund for HIV/AIDS in Myanmar (FHAM) implementation since 2003 as a member of NGO Consortium on HIV/AIDS in Myanmar with the focus on HIV prevention awareness, condom promotion and STI treatment targeting FSW. Since then MSI Myanmar’s involvement in AIDS response has been sustained implementing the Three Diseases Fund (3DF), and Global Fund. As MSI Myanmar was authorized by NAP for HIV testing, HIV Testing Service (HTS) work was added since 2005 to prevention package delievered to Men Sex with Men and Sex Worker population.
MSI Myanmar contributes through a range of platform and processes including MHSCC, CCM (CD- ExWG), HIV TSG, HIV-NSP development, and development of National Health Plan and National Health Insurance in Myanmar. Being an active member of Gender Equality Network since its establishment, MSI Myanmar involves in advocacy and other initiatives on gender equality and advancement of women. Leadership of MSI Myanmar has significantly contributed in the reform processes of many legal and policy frameworks: Association Registration Law 2014, National Drugs Policy, Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Law 1993 (amended 2018), Sex Work Bill, Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases Bill, National Health Insurance Bill, etc.
MSI Myanmar is implementing the treatment and care program with following interventions: Maximize linkage and improve access to care; immediate enrolment and ART initiation, Improve the quality of care maximizing retention and viral suppression, Integration of health services for co-infection and co- morbidity (TB, STI, SRHR) and enhance positive prevention. Collocating with MSI SRH clinics, ART clients can access integrated SRH services and positive prevention will be enhanced to promote well- being of themselves and their families and delay disease progression. Currently, a cohort of more than 1,300 clients who started ART since 2007 with Consortium ART team were fully supported by MSI Myanmar since 2018 in 3 townships: Bago, Mawlamyine and Monywa.
MSI Myanmar implement the combination prevention programme for MSM/TG, Sex Workers and Other Vulnerable Populations through following interventions: Increase scale of effective combination prevention interventions for priority populations and promote community led approaches; Maximize HIV testing and strengthened linkages to ART among priority populations and their sexual partners; Maximize efficiency in service delivery and enhance integration with other health services; and Ensure enabling environment for priority populations and sexual partners.
